• 2 cups  white granulated sugar
• 1/3 cup  butter, softened at room temperature
• 3 large eggs
• 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 3 cups  all-purpose flour
• 3 1/2 teaspoons  baking powder
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
• 1 1/2 cups  buttermilk or whole milk
• 3 tablespoons  instant coffee
• For Butter Cream:
• 2 cups  butter, softened at room temperature
• 1/4 cup  Kahlua liquor, or strong espresso
• 3-4 tablespoons  heavy cream
• 3 cups  confectioner’s sugar
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
